In the pages of history the last Hajj performed by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is known as ‘Hajj-atul-Wada’. It was the farewell Hajj of the the Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Holy Prophet (PBUH) performed the obligation of Hajj only once in his life. He completed it in the last days of his prophet-hood. He performed the Hajj when he was sixty three years old. By this time Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) was successful in spreading the Islam in the Saudi Arab.
Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) ended the dark age of Arab ignorance and made them successful with the light of Islam. He inspired them to believe in presence and ones of Allah no matter what ever their deeds are. Holy Prophet (PBUH) explained to them that Allah Almighty is the most exalted and master of all masters. He is the creator of the universe and all believers must obey Him.
Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) realized the fact that the time to leave this world and enter the heaven is near. Therefore he decided to end his journey in a perfect way. He decided to gather all the believers and to speak to them in the last sermon by covering all the necessary fundamentals of Islam to improve their knowledge for practicing their faith perfectly. To make it possible he invited believers from all cities of the Saudi Arab to accompany him in Hajj Pilgrimage.
Five days before the start of Zul Hajj, Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), left for Mecca with more than 114000 followers joining him. While he travelled he recited: “Labbaik! Allahumma Labbaik! Labbaika Laa shareeka Lak, Inna lHamda wan na’imata lakaa wal mulk, laa shareeka lak”.
When he reached Mecca on fifth of Zul Hajj, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed a revolution (Tawaf) of Kaaba seven times. He offered two rakat salat at ‘Maqam-e-Ibraheem. While ascending on Mount of Safa, he recited; “There is no god but Allah, He has no partner, all sovereignty and praise belong to Him. He gives life and brings death. He is All-Powerful and Supreme over everything.”
Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to Mina with his companions and passed his night there on the eighth of Zul Hajj. Then he left for Arafat on the ninth, after the Fajr prayer was performed he spoke to the Muslims in his last sermon.
